I'm a biologist, science writer, photographer, and wannabe old-time fiddler from near Boulder, Colorado, USA (recently migrated from Tucson, Arizona). I have always loved nature. Nosy guy that I am, I'm always trying to get up-close and personal with nature—usually with a telephoto or macro lens. I hope you enjoy my photos. Bear Peak : Bear Peak (elev. 8461') is the highest point in Boulder, Colorado. Here's a late summer hike via the Fern Canyon Trail, starting from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) parking lot.

Costa's Hummingbird : Today I finally got the lens of my dreams (well, at least my attainable dreams): a Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L. It was a dreary day in Tucson, so I didn't get try it out much. Then, just before dusk, the sun peeked out for a few minutes. This male Costa's hummingbird gave me a few nice poses.
